The Millennium Universal College (TMUC) Expands Learning Opportunities with Turnitin

TMUC, Pakistan’s Largest Transnational Education Provider, Leverages Turnitin’s Leading Academic Integrity Solutions to Enable Ethical Student Use of AI

OAKLAND, Calif. – September 24, 2024

Turnitin, a global leader of technology solutions in academic integrity, and The Millennium Universal College (TMUC), Pakistan’s largest transnational education provider, today announced their shared commitment to expanding student learning opportunities through AI integration. The collaboration between Turnitin and TMUC enables ethical student use of AI for education through programs, resources and technology built to ensure original student work, and uphold academic integrity in the age of AI.

With resources provided by Turnitin, TMUC offers students guidance and support to foster continuous learning and uphold academic integrity in the age of AI. Turnitin’s interactive AI writing puzzle includes links to rubrics, best practice articles and instructional resources to help administrators, educators and institutions navigate AI writing with confidence.

Following the launch of ChatGPT in late 2022, Amna Salik, Dean of Academics at TMUC, saw the power and potential of AI, using it as a tool to transform education at TMUC without sacrificing academic integrity. Turnitin’s AI writing detection feature was integrated into their existing workflow as a tool for contextualized assessment.

"Rather than adopting a zero-tolerance stance on AI writing, we are adapting our teaching and assessment practices at TMUC to support authentic learning. We integrated Turnitin's AI writing indicator as a tool for contextualized assessment, focusing on faculty and staff knowing the learner, understanding their skill set and their capacity to express their ideas,” said Salik. “It not only just identifies text that could possibly have been generated using an AI-assistive tool, but also supports how to have those really purposeful conversations with students on what to look at, what to rethink and what to redraft.” By incorporating Turnitin’s AI writing indicator, the institution has further bolstered their efforts to uphold academic integrity, while providing educators with actionable insights to better support student learning.

“Long term is that [generative AI] is here to stay,” notes Salik, “we need to make sure that we create awareness among both our students and our faculty, and give them the skill and the aptitude to be able to embrace this.”

Turnitin and the company’s innovative product portfolio have received numerous accolades, including a finalist nomination at the 2024 Bett Awards, and top honors at the 2024 EdTech Breakthrough Awards, 2024 GSV Top 150, and 2023 Tech & Learning Awards.
